# Creating and recording meetings

> Start online, in-person, or phone meetings, record them, and upload past recordings or transcripts.

You can create meetings in Slant for any type of conversation — online video calls, phone calls, or in-person meetings. Click **Start meeting** to open the creation form with three tabs: **In person**, **Meeting link**, and **Past meeting**.

You can start a meeting from:

* The **Meetings** page
* A household, [other contact](/records/other-contacts), or [business](/records/businesses) detail page

When you start a meeting from a household, contact, or business, the meeting is automatically filed under that record and the link is locked in the create form.

## Meeting preparation

Slant automatically generates an AI preparation brief for upcoming meetings that have at least one linked household, contact, or business. The prep pulls from the linked record's history, recent notes, past meeting summaries, and upcoming context to give you a quick refresher before the meeting starts.

Prep is generated automatically when a household, contact, or business is linked to an upcoming meeting within the next 7 days. If you create a meeting three days from now and link a household, contact, or business, the prep generates right away. For meetings further out, prep is generated as the meeting enters the 7-day window. The more data Slant has on the linked record — notes, past meetings, tasks, and account details — the more useful the prep will be.

If the prep content is useful, click **Save as notes** to copy it into the meeting's notepad for reference during the meeting. You can [customize the prep prompt](/activity/meetings/customizing-meeting-ai#meeting-prompts) to control what the AI focuses on.

## Online meetings

Online meetings are video or audio calls on platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, or Slack.

When you have a [connected calendar](/setting-up-slant/integrations/email-and-calendar), online meetings appear automatically on the **Upcoming** tab and the [notetaker](/activity/meetings/notetaker) joins to record them. You don't need to do anything — the notetaker handles recording and transcription.

### Create an online meeting manually

If you have an online meeting that isn't on your calendar, create it manually so the notetaker can join:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Start meeting">
    On the **Meetings** page, click **Start meeting**. You can also click **Start meeting** from a household, [other contact](/records/other-contacts), or [business](/records/businesses) detail page to file the meeting under that record automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the Meeting link tab" />

  <Step title="Fill in the details">
    Optionally select a **Household**, **Contact**, or **Business** to file the meeting under, plus a **Meeting type**. Enter a **Title** and paste the meeting URL into the **Meeting link** field.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Create meeting">
    The meeting is created and the notetaker is invited to join at the link you provided.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Phone call meetings

Slant can record and transcribe phone calls as meetings. There are two ways phone calls become meetings:

### Call the Slant recording number

Each book has a dedicated recording number. Call **(888) 565-3692** from a phone number linked to your account, and Slant records the call and creates a meeting with a full transcript.

To link your phone number:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open notetaker settings">
    Go to **Settings** → **Notetaker** and select your book's tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add your phone number">
    Under **Allowed inbound phone numbers**, click **Add phone number** and enter the number you'll call from.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Once your number is linked, any call you make to the recording number from that phone is automatically recorded and processed.

### Phone integration

If you have a [phone integration](/setting-up-slant/integrations/phone) that automatically transcribes calls, those transcripts are captured as meetings without any additional setup.

## In-person meetings

For meetings that happen face-to-face without a video link, you have two recording options.
