# Sending documents for signature

> Send filled documents to DocuSign for e-signature and track signing status.

After [filling a document](/records/households/document-filler/filling-documents), you can send it to DocuSign for e-signature. The document filler lets you assign a signer to each signer role configured on the template, then sends the envelope directly from DocuSign.

  You can send documents for e-signature even if your firm hasn't connected a DocuSign account — envelopes are sent from Slant's shared account by default. To send from your own account, see [connecting DocuSign](/records/households/document-filler/settings#connect-docusign).

## Send a document for signature

  <Step title="Fill the document">
    [Fill a document](/records/households/document-filler/filling-documents) as usual. After the document is generated, you'll see your options.

  <Step title="Click Send to DocuSign">
    This option appears when the template includes signature fields.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Assign signers to each role">
    Each signer role defined for the template (for example, client, joint client, or advisor) needs a signer. Select a person from the **Household members** or **Book users** groups. To skip an optional role, select **N/A**.

  <Step title="Add email addresses if needed">
    If a selected signer doesn't have an email address on file, an email field appears below their name. Enter the email address where they should receive the signing request.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Delegate unfilled fields">
    If the document has fields that were left blank during filling, you can delegate them to signers to complete during signing. Toggle on the fields you want to delegate, then assign each one to a signer. Required fields are always included. Click **Continue** when you're done.

  <Step title="Click Send to DocuSign">
    The envelope is created and signers are notified.

If you're one of the signers, you'll be redirected to DocuSign to sign immediately. Other signers receive an email with a link to sign.

## After sending

### Signing notifications

You'll receive a notification when the document's status changes:

* **Signed** — All signers have completed their signatures. The signed document is available for download.
* **Declined** — A signer declined to sign.
* **Voided** — The envelope was voided.

Click the notification to view the status and download the signed document.

### Signed document storage

If the household has a connected [cloud storage folder](/setting-up-slant/integrations/file-storage), the signed document is automatically saved there once all signers have completed signing. You can configure a specific subfolder for signed documents in the [DocuSign settings](/records/households/document-filler/settings#signed-document-storage).

## FAQ

  <Accordion title="Can I send Schwab forms to DocuSign?">
    No. Schwab forms are not currently supported for DocuSign e-signatures. You can still fill and download them.

  <Accordion title="How are signers assigned by default?">
    Slant automatically suggests signers based on the role. The head of household role maps to the household's head member, spouse maps to the spouse or partner, and advisor maps to you (the current user). You can change any of these before sending.

  <Accordion title="Can I cancel or resend an envelope after sending?">
    Envelope management (voiding, resending) is handled directly in DocuSign. Slant tracks the envelope status and notifies you of any changes.
