# Document filler settings

> Upload and configure document templates, set field mappings and signers, and connect DocuSign.

Upload your own fillable PDFs, configure how each one fills and gets signed, choose where completed documents are stored, and connect your firm's DocuSign account.

## Document templates

<Note>
  Only admins can upload and configure document templates.
</Note>

Go to **Settings** → **Document filler**. The **Company** tab lists all document templates available to your firm. Each row shows the template **Name**, **Form type** (**Joint** or **Individual**), and an **Active** toggle.

### Upload a template

You configure your own fillable PDFs in-house — no Slant representative required.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the upload window">
    Click **Upload PDF**. The **Upload document template** window opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name the template">
    Enter a **Name** (for example, "Schwab account application").
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the form type">
    Set **Form type** to **Joint** to fill data for the whole household, or **Individual** to fill data for a single person.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the file">
    Next to **Fillable PDF**, click **Choose File** and select your PDF.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload">
    Click **Upload**. Slant detects the PDF's form fields automatically and names them for you.
  </Step>
</Steps>

After upload, Slant suggests field names and a banner shows while it works. The new template appears in the list, ready to configure.

<Warning>
  Your PDF must be a fillable PDF — one with form fields you can type into. If it has no form fields, the upload is rejected with: "This PDF has no fillable form fields. Please upload a fillable PDF." If your form isn't a fillable PDF, contact your Slant representative.
</Warning>

### Enable or disable a template

Toggle the **Active** switch on a template row to enable or disable it. Disabled templates are hidden from users when filling documents but are not deleted. You can re-enable them at any time.

### Rename or delete a template

Click the **⋮** (three-dot menu) on a row, then select **Edit** to open the template editor or **Delete** to remove it.

<Warning>
  Deleting a template removes it and its configuration. This cannot be undone.
</Warning>

### Configure a template

Click the **⋮** (three-dot menu) on a row and select **Edit**. The editor opens with the PDF preview on the left and a sidebar with five sections: **Field definitions**, **Field groups**, **Conditional fields**, **Mappings**, and **Signatures**. Hover a row in any section to highlight that field in the PDF preview. Click **Save changes** to apply your work or **Cancel** to discard it.

<Tip>
  Look for the suggestion banners marked with a sparkle icon. Slant can suggest field names, groups, mappings, and conditions so you don't have to configure everything by hand.
</Tip>

#### Field definitions

Drag rows to reorder them, rename fields, hide them from the fill form, or mark them as required. Each row has these controls:

* **Label** — The name users see for the field on the fill form.
* **Sign / date** — Mark a field as a signature or date field so it can be assigned to a signer in the **Signatures** section.
* **Show on form** — Show or hide the field on the fill form.
* **Required** — Require a value before the document can be filled.

#### Field groups

Radio button groups already defined in the PDF appear automatically and are labeled **From PDF** (these are locked). To clean up the fill form, combine related checkboxes into a custom group:

* Click **New group**, then choose **Pick one** (only one option can be selected) or **Pick many** (multiple options can be selected).
* Or click **Suggest groups** to let Slant propose groups for you.

#### Conditional fields

Show one or more fields on the fill form only when another field has a specific value. Click **Add condition**, then choose the trigger field and the condition — for example, show fields when a trigger field is filled, has certain values, or a checkbox is checked. Slant can also suggest conditions.

#### Mappings

Pre-fill each form field from household or person data. Use the combobox next to each field to choose the data source. Leave a field blank to collect its value at fill time.

* Click **Suggest mappings** to let Slant propose mappings for every field.
* Click **Clear all** to remove all mappings at once.

#### Signatures

Define one signer role per person who needs to sign. The fields you marked **Sign / date** in **Field definitions** become available here.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add a role">
    Click **Add role** and enter a **Role label** (for example, "Client", "Joint client", or "Advisor").
  </Step>

  <Step title="Assign signature fields">
    Use the **Signature fields** picker to assign the signature fields this role signs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Assign date fields">
    Use the **Date fields** picker to assign the date fields this role completes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

These roles are the signers users assign when [sending the document for signature](/records/households/document-filler/sending-for-signature).

## Filled document storage

Go to **Settings** → **Document filler** and select a book tab. The **Where should completed documents be stored?** field lets you set an optional subfolder name within each household's cloud storage folder.

Leave this empty to save completed documents to the root of the household's storage folder. The folder name saves automatically when you click away from the field.

<Note>
  This setting requires a [file storage integration](/setting-up-slant/integrations/file-storage) to be connected.
</Note>

## Connect DocuSign

Go to **Settings** → **DocuSign**. The **Company** tab lets you connect your firm's DocuSign account for sending e-signature envelopes.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Connect account">
    You'll be redirected to DocuSign to authorize Slant.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in to DocuSign and grant access">
    After authorizing, you'll be redirected back to Slant. The connection status updates to **Connected** with the DocuSign email and username.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If your firm doesn't connect a DocuSign account, envelopes are sent from Slant's shared DocuSign account instead.

### Disconnect DocuSign

Click **Disconnect** on a connected account. Existing envelopes are not affected — only future envelopes will be sent from Slant's shared account.

<Warning>
  Disconnecting switches all future envelopes to Slant's shared DocuSign account. This affects all users in your firm.
</Warning>

### Signed document storage

Go to **Settings** → **DocuSign** and select a book tab. The **Where should completed documents be stored?** field lets you set an optional subfolder name for signed documents within each household's cloud storage folder, separate from the subfolder for filled documents.
