# Email

> View email history with a household, send new messages, and generate AI follow-up tasks from an email thread.

The **Email** tab on a client, prospect, or other contact record shows every email thread with the people on that record. Connect an inbox through [email and calendar integration](/setting-up-slant/integrations/email-and-calendar) to sync your conversations.

## View a thread

Click any row in the thread list to open a thread. Each message shows the sender, recipients, date, and full body. Use **Resync from Gmail** (or your provider) to pull in the latest messages.

Calendar invitation emails are hidden from the thread list by default. Click **Show calendar invites** in the toolbar to include them.

## Send an email

Click **Send email** in the top right of the Email tab to compose a new message. The head of household's email is pre-filled as the recipient, along with the spouse or partner if they're on the household. You can only send from inboxes you own or have [**Read and send** access to](/setting-up-slant/integrations/email-and-calendar#share-your-email-access).

### Add recipients

Click the **To**, **Cc**, or **Bcc** field and start typing. Slant searches your book by email address, person name, and business name, and groups suggestions:

* **Businesses**
* **Contacts**
* **Clients**
* **Prospects**
* **Users**

Click a suggestion to add it as a recipient.

## Generate follow-up tasks from a thread

Slant can read an email thread and suggest follow-up tasks for you — great for turning a long client reply into a clear to-do list.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the thread">
    Click a thread in the Email tab to view its messages.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Generate tasks">
    Scroll to the **Tasks** section at the bottom of the thread and click **Generate tasks**. Slant reads the thread and proposes follow-up tasks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review each suggestion">
    Each suggested task appears with **Accept** and **Reject** buttons.

    * Click **Accept** to add the task to your task list.
    * Click **Reject** to dismiss the suggestion.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Accepted tasks behave like any other task — you can edit, assign, and schedule them. Tasks created this way link back to the email thread so you can return to the source conversation at any time.

### Add a task manually from a thread

You can also add a task to a thread yourself, without using AI. Click **Add task** in the **Tasks** section header to open the [task creation form](/activity/tasks/creating-tasks) with the email thread already attached. The new task lands in the thread's task list alongside any AI suggestions.

### Regenerate tasks

Once a thread has tasks, the button changes to **Regenerate**. Use it after new replies arrive to refresh the suggestions.

<Warning>
  Regenerating replaces pending and open suggestions for the thread. Tasks you've already completed are preserved, and Slant won't suggest duplicates of tasks that already exist on the thread.
</Warning>

<Note>
  Suggested tasks stay as suggestions until you accept them. They don't appear in your main task list or send notifications until you click **Accept**.
