# Notes

> Create, organize, attach files to, lock, and manage notes on records in Slant.

Notes keep advice, decisions, and other context with the record they belong to. Clients, prospects, past clients, other contacts, and businesses each have a **Notes** tab.

## Create or edit a note

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Notes tab">
    Open the record and select **Notes**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add or open a note">
    Click **Add note** to create one, or select an existing note to edit it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add content and details">
    Write the note, then add labels, mentions, or attachments as needed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the note">
    Click **Create note** for a new note or **Update note** for an existing one. New attachments are uploaded when you save.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Type `@` in the editor to mention a record, teammate, or team. Mentioned teammates receive a notification. Team mentions notify active team members who have access to the note’s book; overlapping mentions do not send duplicate notifications.

## Attach files

Use the **Attachments** section in the note editor to add files in either of these ways:

* Click **Upload file** and choose one or more files.
* Drag files from your computer onto the open note. When **Drop files to attach** appears, release them.
* Click **Attach from drive** to link a file from your connected [file storage](/setting-up-slant/integrations/file-storage).

You can add up to 20 attachments to a note. Each uploaded file can be up to 20 MB. Supported formats are PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV, XLSX, XLS, PNG, JPEG, and GIF.

The files remain part of the draft until you save the note. To remove one before saving, click the <Icon icon="x" /> next to its name.

<Note>
  Locked notes are view-only. Unlock a note before adding or removing attachments.
</Note>

## View version history

Open an existing note, then choose **Note actions** → **Version history**. The history panel shows saved versions with timestamps and the teammate who made each change. While viewing history, the note is read-only. Close version history to return to editing.

### Restore an earlier note

You need permission to edit the note. Unlock locked notes before restoring.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Select a saved version">
    In **Version history**, select the earlier version you want to use.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the version actions">
    Choose **Version actions** → **Restore this version**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm the restoration">
    In **Restore this note version?**, click **Restore version**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The selected body becomes the latest version. The previous body remains available in history.

## Find and organize notes

Use the controls above the note list to change what you see:

* **Search** — find text within the record's notes
* **Table view** — show notes in rows with labels, creators, and dates
* **Card view** — show note previews as cards
* **View settings** — show hidden notes or filter notes by label

Notes with attachments show an attachment count in the list and on their cards.

Apply a label while editing a note, or [manage available note labels](/account-settings/customization/labels-and-tags) from settings.

## Manage notes in bulk

Bulk actions are available in **Table view**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Select notes">
    Select the checkbox beside each unlocked note. Use the header checkbox to select all unlocked notes currently loaded in the table.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose an action">
    In the selection bar, click **Add label** or **Delete**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete the action">
    Choose a label, or confirm the permanent deletion.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Adding a label preserves each note's existing labels. If more notes load as you scroll, use the header checkbox again to include them.

<Warning>
  Bulk deletion permanently removes every selected note. This cannot be undone.
</Warning>

Locked notes cannot be selected for bulk actions. Changing the search, label filter, hidden-note setting, or view clears the current selection.

## Lock, hide, pin, or delete a note

Open the note's **⋮** menu in the notes list to manage it:

* **Pin** — keep the note at the top of the list

* **Lock** — make the note view-only. Its content, mentions, references, labels, and attachments cannot change while locked.
* **Delete** — permanently remove the note

<Note>

</Note>

You can pin or unpin a locked note. Unlock it before hiding, editing, labeling, attaching files, or deleting it.
