How storage integration works
Folder structure
When you connect storage, Slant can create an organized folder structure:Document access
From any client record:- Click the Documents tab
- See files from their connected folder
- Open, download, or share files
- Upload new documents directly
Linking vs copying
Slant links to files in your storage—it doesn’t copy them:- Files stay in Google Drive/Dropbox
- No duplicate storage charges
- Changes sync automatically
- Original file permissions apply

Navigate to the client.

Browse files
See all documents in their folder.
Upload documents

On the client record, go to Documents.

Choose files from your computer.

Open a document

Locate it in the Documents list.

Sharing permissions are controlled by your storage provider. Verify the link works before sending to clients.
Organizing documents
Folder templates
Create consistent folder structures for new clients:1
Go to storage settings
Navigate to Settings → Integrations → Storage.

Open folder templates
Click Folder templates.

Define structure
Create the subfolder structure you want:
- Financial Plans
- Tax Documents
- Insurance
- Estate Planning
- Correspondence

Save
New client folders will use this template.
Link existing folders
If you already have organized client folders:1
Open client record
Navigate to the client.

Go to Documents
Click the Documents tab.

Click Link folder
Click Link existing folder.

Select folder
Browse your storage and select their folder.

The folder is now linked to this client.
Document search
Search within Slant

Type the document name.

Filter to documents
Select Documents filter if needed.
Full-text search
For searching within documents, use your storage provider’s search:- Google Drive: Searches document contents
- Dropbox: Searches filenames and contents (on supported plans)
Security considerations
Access control
- Slant accesses files using your OAuth credentials
- Team members see files based on their storage permissions
- Revoking the integration removes Slant’s access
Compliance
For firms with document retention requirements:- Documents in your storage follow your retention policies
- Slant doesn’t delete documents from storage
- Consider your storage provider’s compliance certifications
Encryption
- Files are encrypted by your storage provider
- Slant doesn’t store copies of your files
- Data in transit uses HTTPS/TLS
Troubleshooting
Documents not showing
Check:- Folder is correctly linked to the client
- You have permission to access the folder
- Integration is connected and active
Upload failures
Verify:- File size is within limits
- File type is supported
- Storage has available space
- Integration permissions include write access
Sync delays
Note:- New files may take a few moments to appear
- Try refreshing the Documents tab
- Check storage provider’s service status

Consistent naming

Regular cleanup
Periodically review client folders:- Remove outdated documents
- Archive old versions
- Maintain organized subfolders
Team coordination
When teams share storage:- Agree on folder structures
- Use consistent naming conventions
- Don’t move files others are using
