How integrations work

OAuth connections

Most integrations use OAuth for secure connection:
  1. Click Connect in Slant
  2. Sign in to the service
  3. Grant permissions
  4. Slant accesses data securely
Benefits of OAuth:
  • No passwords stored in Slant
  • Revocable at any time
  • Limited to necessary permissions

API connections

Some integrations connect via API keys:
  1. Get API credentials from the service
  2. Enter them in Slant settings
  3. Slant connects using those credentials

Data flow

Integrations can be:
  • One-way in — Data flows into Slant (custodian data)
  • One-way out — Data flows from Slant (some exports)
  • Two-way — Data syncs both directions (email, calendar)

Team integrations

Individual connections

Some integrations are per-user:
  • Email accounts
  • Calendar access
  • Personal phone extensions
Each team member connects their own accounts.

Shared connections

Some integrations are book-wide:
  • Custodian data feeds
  • Storage root folders
  • Shared phone numbers
These are configured once and shared by the team.

Admin requirements

Certain integrations require admin setup:
  • Initial connection by admin
  • Configuration for all users
  • Service-level settings

Security

Permissions

Integrations request only necessary permissions:
  • Slant follows least-privilege principles
  • You can review permissions before granting
  • Revoke access anytime

Data handling

  • Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Credentials stored securely
  • Audit logs track integration activity

Compliance

For regulated firms:
  • Review integration compliance docs
  • Ensure data handling meets requirements
  • Consider data residency needs

Troubleshooting

Common issues

  • OAuth token expired
  • Password changed on connected service
  • Service revoked access
Data not syncing:
  • Check integration status
  • Verify permissions are still valid
  • Look for error messages
