Slant can import your existing data so you don’t have to start from scratch. Whether you’re switching from another CRM or working from a spreadsheet, the import tool walks you through mapping and reviewing your data before anything is created.
Getting to data import
Open data import settings
Go to Settings → Data import.
Import options
Slant supports three ways to bring in your data:
- Redtail — Import directly from a Redtail database backup file. Slant extracts your households, people, tasks, notes, and more. See importing from Redtail.
- Wealthbox — Import from a Wealthbox data export. Slant maps your contacts, tasks, notes, and other records automatically. See importing from Wealthbox.
- CSV — Upload a spreadsheet (CSV, XLSX, XLS, and other formats) to import clients, prospects, other contacts, or notes. Best for custom data or when switching from a CRM that Slant doesn’t directly support. See CSV import.
What gets imported
Depending on the source, Slant can import:
- Clients and prospects (as households with people)
- Other contacts (professional relationships like CPAs and attorneys)
- Tasks and notes
- Meetings and events
- Opportunities
During the import process, you’ll choose how to categorize each record and review everything before it’s created in Slant.
How CRM imports work
When importing from Redtail or Wealthbox, a guided wizard walks you through five steps:
- Select CRM source — Choose Redtail or Wealthbox.
- Upload export file — Upload the backup or export file from your previous CRM.
- Filter contacts — Choose which records to include based on criteria like assigned advisor or tags.
- Map contact types — Decide how each record should be categorized in Slant (client, prospect, or other contact).
- Review all data — Preview everything before the import runs. Fix any warnings or exclude records you don’t want.
You can also access CSV upload directly from the Data import page by clicking CSV upload next to the New import button.
