Before you connect
Each advisor connects their own GoTo user to each Slant book where they work. Before connecting, confirm that your GoTo user has:- An active GoTo Connect license
- A direct phone number assigned to its line or extension
- Permission to send text messages from that number if you plan to send SMS
- Access to call reports and recordings if you want Slant to import them
Prepare GoTo
1
Assign the advisor a number and line
In GoTo Admin, assign the advisor a GoTo Connect license, extension, and direct phone number. Confirm that the number appears under Phone system → Phone numbers and is assigned to the advisor. See GoTo’s SMS setup tutorial for the same number-assignment requirement.
2
Configure call routing
Route the advisor’s GoTo line to the device or personal number they use to answer calls. When an advisor starts a call from Slant, GoTo rings the advisor first and then bridges the call to the contact.
3
Enable texting
Grant the advisor texting permission for their assigned number. GoTo may require carrier registration before the number can send SMS to US numbers. If you only need inbound SMS, use GoTo’s receive-only option when it is available for your account.
4
Grant reporting access
Give the advisor permission to view call reports. To import call recordings, also grant access to call recordings and enable recording for the calls you want captured.
GoTo features and admin labels can vary by plan and account configuration. Contact your GoTo administrator or GoTo Support if texting, recordings, or voicemail are not available in your account.
Connect GoTo to Slant
1
Open phone settings
In Slant, go to Settings → Phone and SMS.
2
Start the connection
On the GoTo Connect card, click Connect GoTo.
3
Authorize Slant
Sign in as the GoTo user you want to connect and approve the requested permissions. GoTo redirects you to Slant when authorization finishes.
4
Confirm the account and number
Wait for the card to show the advisor’s name followed by Connected. The assigned GoTo phone number appears below the account.
Authorization may take a few seconds to finish after GoTo redirects you to Slant. Keep the page open while the GoTo Connect card updates.
What Slant syncs
Slant supports the following GoTo activity:- Incoming and outgoing SMS, including delivery-status updates
- Group SMS
- Incoming, outgoing, completed, and missed call logs
- Voicemails and available voicemail transcriptions
- Available call recordings and transcripts
Initial history sync
After the first connection, Slant requests up to seven years of available SMS messages, calls, and voicemails. GoTo’s retention and API limits can shorten the history returned:- Detailed Call Events Reports are available for up to 13 months, according to GoTo’s Developer Center changelog. Slant uses these reports for recent calls and their available recording or transcript details.
- For older calls, Slant falls back to GoTo’s standard call history. These older entries may contain only the call log.
- Recordings and transcripts appear only when GoTo recorded the call and makes the media available to the connected user.
Test the connection
Use a contact whose phone number is saved on a Slant record.1
Test an outgoing SMS
Open the record’s Phone tab, select the GoTo account and recipient, enter a message, and send it. Confirm that the message appears in both Slant and the GoTo inbox.
2
Test an incoming SMS
Reply from the contact’s phone. Confirm that the reply appears on the same record in Slant.
3
Test an outgoing call
Click Call for the contact. Answer when GoTo rings the connected advisor’s line and confirm that GoTo bridges the call to the contact.
4
Test an incoming and missed call
Call the advisor’s GoTo number from the contact’s phone. Complete one call and leave another unanswered, then confirm that both appear on the record’s Phone tab with the correct status.
5
Test a voicemail
Leave a voicemail for the connected extension. Confirm that the voicemail call log and audio appear in Slant. If GoTo creates a transcription, it may arrive after the audio.
Troubleshoot GoTo
Why does Slant show no SMS-enabled phone number?
Why does Slant show no SMS-enabled phone number?
The connected GoTo user needs a direct phone number assigned to their line or extension and permission to text from that number. Update the assignment in GoTo Admin, then click Reconnect in Slant and authorize GoTo again.
Why can I receive SMS but not send it?
Why can I receive SMS but not send it?
Receiving SMS does not confirm that your number is approved for outbound messaging. Confirm that the user has texting permission for the number and complete any carrier registration GoTo requires. A permissions or resource error from GoTo usually means the connected user cannot send from the selected number.
Why is an incoming SMS in GoTo but not Slant?
Why is an incoming SMS in GoTo but not Slant?
Confirm that an active Super Admin remains connected to Slant. GoTo stops organization-wide messaging notifications if the user who created the subscription is deactivated or loses Super Admin access. Also confirm that the sender’s phone number is saved on a record in the current Slant book.
Why is a recording or transcript missing?
Why is a recording or transcript missing?
Confirm that GoTo recorded the call and that the connected user can access call reports and recordings. Detailed recording and transcript metadata is limited to GoTo’s 13-month Call Events Report window. A voicemail transcription can arrive after the voicemail audio.
What happens when I disconnect GoTo?
What happens when I disconnect GoTo?
Existing GoTo activity remains visible in Slant, but new calls, messages, and voicemails stop syncing. If the disconnected account created the organization’s SMS subscription, inbound and outbound SMS notifications can also stop for other connected users until an active Super Admin reconnects.
