Create a project
Choose where to create
You can create projects from:
- The Projects page → click + New project
- A client or prospect record → click Add project in the Projects tab
Select a template
Choose the project template that matches your workflow (e.g., “Client Onboarding”, “Financial Plan”, “Estate Planning”).
Select the household
If you started from the Projects page, select the client or prospect this project is for. If you started from a household record, it’s pre-selected.
Name the project (optional)
The project name auto-generates from the household and template names. You can customize it if needed.
Required information
To create a project, you need:- Template — Which project type to use
- Household — The client or prospect this project is for
What happens after creation
When you create a project:- First milestone activates — The project starts at the template’s first phase
- Tasks are auto-created — Task templates for the first milestone become real tasks
- Deadlines are calculated — Task due dates are set based on template offset days
- Progress tracking begins — You can see completion percentage as tasks are completed
Create from a client record
The fastest way to create a project is directly from the client record:Create from the Projects page
To see all projects in one place before creating:Assign a project owner
Project owners are responsible for driving the project forward:
The assigned owner will see project tasks in their task list and can filter projects by assignment.
Understand task auto-creation
When a project is created or advances to a new milestone, tasks are automatically generated:| Task Template Setting | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Title | Becomes the task title |
| Description | Becomes the task description |
| Deadline offset | Days added to today for the due date |
| Priority | Copied to the task |
| Assigned to | Pre-assigned team member if configured |
| Tags | Applied to the task |
Skip initial task creation
In some cases, you may want to create a project without auto-generating tasks (e.g., for testing or when you’ll add tasks manually): This is an advanced option available through the API. For normal use, let tasks be auto-created—that’s the point of using templates.Project limitations
Keep these constraints in mind:- A project must link to exactly one household
- The household cannot be changed after the project is created
- Projects can only use templates from your organization
- You cannot create a project without selecting a template
