Best practices
Preview before applying
Always review:- How many records are selected?
- What value will be set?
- Is this the correct field?
Use filters wisely
Start with good filters to target the right records:- Apply filters first
- Verify filtered results look correct
- Then select and update
Update in batches
For large updates, work in batches:- Easier to verify results
- Simpler to undo if needed
- Less risk of mistakes
Document significant changes
For major bulk updates:- Note what was changed
- Record when and why
- Keep for compliance if needed
Test with small groups
When unsure:- Select a few records (2-3)
- Apply the bulk update
- Verify results
- Then do the full batch
Automating bulk updates
With workflows
Automate updates based on triggers:- When client AUM exceeds threshold → Update tier
- When task overdue by 7 days → Add “Overdue” tag
- When prospect added → Assign to on-duty advisor
With imports
For complex updates, consider:- Export current data
- Modify in spreadsheet
- Re-import with updates
Troubleshooting
Update didn’t apply
Check:- Did you click Apply/Confirm?
- Did the operation complete without errors?
- Refresh the page and check again
Wrong records updated
If you updated the wrong records:- Use Undo immediately if available
- Otherwise, filter to affected records and reverse manually
Operation too slow
Large bulk updates may take time:- Wait for completion notification
- Don’t navigate away during the operation
- Contact support if it seems stuck
