Enrolling adds a contact to a sequence so they receive its emails automatically. You can enroll recipients manually or through workflow automation.

Manual enrollment

Enroll from a record

1

Open the contact

Navigate to the client, prospect, or person you want to enroll.
2

Find enrollment option

Look for Add to sequence in the actions menu or sidebar.
3

Select the sequence

Choose which sequence to enroll them in.
4

Confirm enrollment

Click Enroll to start the sequence.
The first email sends according to the sequence timing—immediately if within business hours, or the next business day.

Bulk enrollment

Enroll multiple contacts at once:
1

From a list view, select the contacts you want to enroll.
2

Choose bulk action

Click ActionsAdd to sequence.
3

Select sequence

Choose the target sequence.
4

Confirm

Review the selection and click Enroll.
Note: Bulk enrollment counts against your 100 active enrollee limit. If you try to enroll more than the limit allows, some contacts won’t be enrolled.

Automated enrollment

Use workflows to enroll contacts automatically based on triggers:

Common automation triggers

  • Tag added — Enroll when “Hot lead” tag is applied
  • Household created — Start a welcome sequence for new prospects
  • Meeting completed — Begin post-meeting follow-up
  • Opportunity stage changed — Nurture based on pipeline movement

Set up workflow enrollment

Create a workflow

Navigate to AutomationsWorkflows and create a new workflow.
2

Choose a trigger

Select what event should start enrollment.
3

Add the Add to sequence action.
4

Choose which sequence enrollees should enter.
5

Publish the workflow

Activate to start automatic enrollment.

Enrollment limits

Slant limits active sequence enrollees to protect email deliverability:
LimitValue
Total active enrollees100 across all sequences
Per sequenceNo specific limit (shares the 100 total)
Example: If you have 60 people in Sequence A and 30 in Sequence B, you can only enroll 10 more people total until some complete or are removed.

Check current enrollment

View your enrollment count in AutomationsSequences. Each sequence shows its active enrollee count.

Manage enrollees

View enrolled contacts

1

Open the sequence

Navigate to AutomationsSequences and select your sequence.
2

View enrollees

Click the Enrollees tab to see all active and completed enrollees.
3

Enrollee statuses

StatusMeaning
ActiveCurrently receiving the sequence
CompletedReceived all emails successfully
ExitedRemoved before completion
PausedTemporarily stopped

Remove an enrollee

To stop someone from receiving further emails:
1

Find the enrollee

Open the sequence and locate them in the Enrollees list.
2

Click Exit

Click Exit or Remove next to their name.
3

Confirm

Confirm removal. They won’t receive any remaining emails.

Automatic exit conditions

Enrollees automatically exit when:
  • They reply — Any reply to a sequence email exits them
  • Email bounces — Hard bounces remove the contact
  • They unsubscribe — Clicking unsubscribe exits them
  • Sequence completes — After receiving all emails
This prevents continued outreach to people who have engaged or opted out.

Re-enrolling contacts

Contacts who completed or exited a sequence can be enrolled again:
  • Completed contacts — Can re-enroll immediately
  • Exited contacts — Can re-enroll unless they unsubscribed
Note: Consider whether re-enrollment makes sense. Someone who didn’t respond to one sequence may not respond to the same sequence again.

Troubleshooting enrollment

”Cannot enroll” error

Cause: You’ve reached the 100 active enrollee limit. Fix: Wait for current enrollees to complete, or manually exit low-priority enrollees to make room.

Emails not sending

Causes:
  • Sequence is not activated (still in draft)
  • Outside business hours (emails queue for next business day)
  • Contact has no valid email address
Check: Verify the sequence status and the contact’s email field.

Duplicate enrollment

Contacts cannot be enrolled in the same sequence twice simultaneously. If they’re already active in a sequence, you’ll see an error when trying to enroll them again.
