Permissions in Slant operate at two levels: company-wide admin status and book-level roles. Together, these control what each team member can see and do.

Company-level: admin vs member

Every user in your firm is either an Admin or a Member. This status applies across all of Slant.
StatusCapabilities
AdminManage company settings, invite users, change admin status, access data customizations (custom fields, tags, labels, templates)
MemberFull access to day-to-day features (clients, tasks, meetings, notes). Cannot access company settings or invite users

Change admin status

  • Navigate to SettingsUsers and teams.
  • Click the status badge next to a user’s name.
  • Select Admin or Member.
Note: You cannot change your own admin status.

Book-level roles

Within each book, users have one of three roles that control their access to that specific workspace.
RoleCapabilities
PrincipalThe book owner. Full control. Cannot be removed from the book
ContributorCan create, edit, and manage all records in the book
ViewerRead-only access to the book’s data

Principal

  • Each book has exactly one principal (the advisor who owns it).
  • The principal always has full access to the book.
  • To transfer book ownership, contact Slant support.

Contributor

Standard access for day-to-day work:
  • Create and edit clients, prospects, and contacts.
  • Create, complete, and manage tasks.
  • Send emails and schedule meetings.
  • Use workflows and sequences.

Viewer

  • View client records and activity.
  • Cannot create or modify data.

Permission guidelines

Who should be an admin

Give admin status to:
  • Practice principals and partners.
  • Office managers who configure the system.
  • Staff who manage integrations and data customizations.

Who should stay a member

Standard member status works for:
  • Advisors working with clients day-to-day.
  • Support staff managing tasks and communications.
  • Operations team handling data entry.

Data visibility

All team members with book access can view:
  • Household records (clients and prospects).
  • Contact information.
  • Tasks, meetings, and notes.
Admin-only areas:
  • Company profile settings.
  • User management and invitations.
  • Data customizations (custom fields, tags, labels, templates, pipelines).

Activity tracking

Slant tracks who makes changes:
  • Record creation and modification.
  • Task completion.
  • Note authorship.
  • Email activity.
When roles change, previous actions retain their original attribution. New permissions take effect immediately.

Troubleshooting

User cannot perform an action

  • Check whether the action requires admin status.
  • Verify their book-level role (principal, contributor, or viewer).
  • Have them refresh the page or log out and back in.

Need to transfer book ownership
