Account linking connects custodian accounts to households in Slant. Once linked, account balances appear on client records and AUM tracks automatically. Linking custodian accounts to households:
  • Shows balances on client records — See account values in one place
  • Calculates AUM automatically — No manual entry or updates
  • Enables AUM-based reporting — Track assets at the household and book level

Identify the right account

Custodian accounts include information to help you match them:

Account details

  • Account number — Last 4 digits for verification
  • Account name — Name on the account
  • Account type — IRA, brokerage, trust, etc.
  • Market value — Current balance
Many accounts show related party information:
  • Name — Account owner’s name
  • Relationship — Primary owner, joint owner, trustee, etc.
  • Contact info — Email or phone when available
Use related party data to verify you are linking to the correct household. A household typically has multiple custodian accounts:
  • Individual brokerage accounts
  • Joint accounts
  • Retirement accounts (IRA, 401k rollovers)
  • Trust accounts
Link all accounts belonging to a household to see their complete financial picture.

View linked accounts

On household records

After linking, view portfolio data on the household:
1

Open the household

Navigate to the client record.
2

Find custodian data

Look for the custodian accounts section showing linked accounts, total value, and account details.
To remove a link between an account and household:
1

Open the household

Navigate to the client record.
2

Find the account

Locate the custodian account you want to unlink.
3

Click Unlink

Click the unlink option and confirm.
Unlinking removes the account from the household’s portfolio view. The account remains available to link to a different household.

Account linking rules

Each custodian account can be linked to one household per book. If an account is already linked, you need to unlink it first to link it elsewhere.

Advisor code validation

You can only link accounts whose advisor codes match your book’s principal advisor codes. Accounts from other advisors do not appear in your custodian accounts list.

Trust accounts

Custodian accounts held by trusts can be linked to a trust entity within a household. The custodian_account_link supports both household and trust associations.

AUM impact

Linking affects AUM calculations:
  • Linked accounts — Balance included in household AUM
  • Unlinked accounts — Balance not included
  • Automatic updates — AUM recalculates nightly as balances change

Verify AUM

After linking:
  • Check the household’s AUM field
  • Compare to the sum of linked account balances
  • Values should match (timing differences between nightly syncs are normal)

Troubleshooting

Account not found

Causes:
  • Account’s advisor code does not match your book’s principal codes
  • Account recently opened (not yet in nightly feed)
  • Search criteria too narrow
Fix: Broaden your search, verify the account’s advisor code, or wait for the next sync.

AUM not updating

Causes:
  • Account not linked (viewing does not link it)
  • Sync has not run yet
  • Account balance changed after last sync
Fix: Confirm the account is linked. Check the as-of date. Wait for the next nightly sync.

Duplicate accounts

Causes:
  • Account transferred between custodians
  • Multiple data sources for same account
Fix: Link the most current account. If duplicates persist, contact support.
