Dropbox integration connects your Dropbox storage to Slant, enabling access to client documents directly from their records.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Dropbox:
  • Dropbox account (Basic, Plus, Professional, or Business)
  • Slant account with integration permissions
  • Decision on folder organization structure

Connect Dropbox

Go to integrations

Navigate to SettingsIntegrations.

Find Dropbox

Locate Dropbox in available integrations.

Click Connect

Click the Connect button.

Sign in to Dropbox

Sign in to your Dropbox account.

Grant permissions

Allow Slant to access your Dropbox:
  • View files and folders
  • Create and manage folders
  • Upload files

Configure folder structure

Set root folder

Choose where client folders should live:

Open Dropbox settings

Go to SettingsIntegrationsDropbox.

Set root folder

Click Choose root folder.

Browse Dropbox

Navigate to your desired location.

Confirm

Client folders will be created here.

Automatic folders

Enable automatic folder creation:

Open Dropbox settings

Go to Dropbox integration settings.

Enable auto-creation

Toggle on Create folders for new clients.

Define structure

Set default subfolders for new clients.

Save

New clients get folders automatically.
Connect folders you already have:

Open client record

Navigate to the client.

Go to Documents

Click Documents tab.

Click Link folder

Click Link existing folder.

Select folder

Browse to their folder in Dropbox.

Confirm

Folder is linked to this client.

Working with documents

View documents

Open client

Navigate to the client record.

Click Documents

Click the Documents tab.

Browse files

See files in their Dropbox folder.

Open files

Click a file to open it:
  • PDFs open in Dropbox preview
  • Office files open in Dropbox or download
  • Other files download to your computer

Upload files

Click Upload

In Documents tab, click Upload.

Select files

Choose files from your computer.

Upload completes

Files appear in Dropbox.
Drag and drop: Drag files directly into the Documents area.

Download files

Find the file

Locate the document.

Click Download

Click the download icon.

File downloads

File saves to your computer.

Delete files

Deleted files go to Dropbox trash and can be recovered for 30-180 days depending on your plan.

Select file

Click the file to delete.

Confirm

File moves to Dropbox trash.

Sharing documents

Find document

Locate the file to share.

Click Share

Click the share icon.

Get link

Click Create link or Copy link.

Set access

Choose who can access:
  • Anyone with link
  • Team members only
  • Specific people

Send the link to recipients.

Request files from clients

Use Dropbox file requests:

Create file request

In Dropbox, create a file request.

Set destination

Point it to the client’s folder.

Send link

Share the request link with your client.

Files arrive

Uploaded files appear in Slant.

Dropbox Business features

Team folders

If using Dropbox Business:
  • Connect team folders for shared access
  • All team members see the same files
  • Centralized management

Admin controls

Business admins can:
  • Control which integrations are allowed
  • Set sharing policies
  • Monitor connected apps

Paper documents

Dropbox Paper documents:
  • Appear in the file list
  • Open in Dropbox Paper
  • Can be shared like regular files

Team access

Personal accounts

Each person connects their own Dropbox:
  • They see files they have access to
  • Personal files remain private
  • Shared folders are visible to all with permission

Shared team folders

For team collaboration:
  1. Create a shared folder in Dropbox
  2. Add team members
  3. Connect Slant to the shared folder
  4. Everyone sees client documents

Dropbox Business

With Dropbox Business:
  • Use team folders for automatic sharing
  • Admin-managed folder structure
  • Centralized permissions

File organization

Naming conventions

Consistent naming helps with organization:
  • YYYY-MM-DD_Description.pdf for dated documents
  • ClientName_DocumentType_Year.pdf
  • Avoid special characters that may cause issues

Troubleshooting

Can’t see files

Check:
  • Dropbox integration is connected
  • You have access to the folder
  • Folder is linked to the client

Upload errors

Verify:
  • File size within Dropbox limits
  • Storage space available
  • Filename doesn’t contain invalid characters
  • Not uploading blocked file types

Sync issues

Try:
  • Refresh the Documents tab
  • Check Dropbox status page
  • Verify Dropbox desktop app is syncing (if used)

Permission errors

Ensure:
  • You have appropriate folder permissions
  • OAuth token hasn’t expired
  • Admin policies allow the integration

Disconnect Dropbox

Go to integrations

Navigate to SettingsIntegrations.

Find Dropbox

Locate Dropbox in connected integrations.

Click Disconnect

Click Disconnect and confirm.
To fully revoke access:
  1. Disconnect in Slant
  2. Go to Dropbox Settings → Connected apps
  3. Remove Slant’s access
Disconnecting removes Slant’s access. Files remain in Dropbox unchanged.

Permissions

Slant requests limited permissions:
  • Access to connected folders only
  • Cannot access other Dropbox content
  • Cannot delete your entire Dropbox

Dropbox compliance features:
  • 256-bit AES encryption
  • SOC 2 Type II certified
  • HIPAA compliance (Business plans)
  • ISO 27001 certified
