A client is an active, paying customer you serve. In Slant, clients are organized as households—family units that contain one or more people.
How clients work
Every client represents a household with:
- Head of household (required) — The primary contact person
- Spouse or partner (optional) — A second primary person
- Dependents (optional) — Children and other family members
This household structure reflects how financial advisors actually work with families, not just individuals.
All client data is scoped to your book—your advisor workspace. Team members with access to your book can view and manage the same clients.
Client attributes
Clients have additional fields that prospects don’t have:
| Attribute | Description |
|---|
| Service tier | Priority level (A, B, C, or D) |
| AUM | Assets Under Management, tracked from custodian data |
| Review cadence | How often you meet for formal reviews |
| Became client date | When this household became a paying client |
Service tiers
Tiers help you prioritize your time across your client base:
- Tier A — Highest priority clients requiring the most attention
- Tier B — High priority clients with regular engagement
- Tier C — Standard clients with periodic check-ins
- Tier D — Lower priority clients with minimal touchpoints
Use tiers to filter your client list and focus on the relationships that matter most.
Clients vs prospects
The main difference between clients and prospects is their status in your practice:
| Client | Prospect |
|---|
| Type | Active customer | Potential customer |
| Service tier | Yes | No |
| AUM tracking | Yes | No |
| Review schedule | Yes | No |
When a prospect becomes a paying customer, you can convert them to a client, preserving all their data and history.
