Service tiers help you prioritize your time across your client base. Each client is assigned a tier (A, B, C, or D) that indicates their priority level and helps you focus on the relationships that matter most.
Understanding tiers
Tiers are a simple prioritization system:
| Tier | Priority | Typical characteristics |
|---|
| A | Highest | Top clients, highest AUM, most attention |
| B | High | Important clients, regular engagement |
| C | Standard | Core clients, periodic check-ins |
| D | Lower | Smaller relationships, minimal touchpoints |
Tier definitions vary by practice. Work with your team to establish what each tier means for your firm.

Tier strategies
By AUM
A common approach is to tier by assets under management:
| Tier | AUM range |
|---|
| A | $1M+ |
| B | 500K−1M |
| C | 250K−500K |
| D | Under $250K |
By revenue
Alternatively, tier by revenue generated:
| Tier | Annual revenue |
|---|
| A | $10K+ |
| B | 5K−10K |
| C | 2K−5K |
| D | Under $2K |
By relationship
Some practices tier by relationship factors:
| Tier | Criteria |
|---|
| A | Key relationships, referral sources, growth potential |
| B | Engaged clients, regular communication |
| C | Stable relationships, standard service |
| D | Minimal engagement, may be candidates for transition |
Tier and review cadence
Tiers often align with review frequency:
| Tier | Typical review cadence |
|---|
| A | Monthly or Quarterly |
| B | Quarterly |
| C | Semi-annual |
| D | Annual |

Select clients
Check the boxes next to clients you want to update.
Click Bulk actions
Select Bulk actions in the toolbar.
Choose Update tier
Select Update tier and choose the new tier.

Customize tier labels
Your book can customize the display labels for tiers:
Open Settings
Click your workspace name → Settings.
Go to Book settings
Navigate to Book settings.
Find tier labels
Look for the Service tier labels section.
Edit labels
Change the display names (e.g., “Platinum” instead of “A”).
Even with custom labels, tiers are still stored as A/B/C/D internally. Custom labels only change how they’re displayed.
Reporting by tier
Use tiers in reports to understand your practice:
- Client count by tier — How many clients at each level
- AUM by tier — Assets distribution across tiers
- Task completion by tier — Are you serving top clients well?
- Review compliance by tier — Meeting review schedules
Best practices
- Review tiers regularly — Re-evaluate annually as relationships change
- Be consistent — Apply the same criteria across all clients
- Document your criteria — Write down what each tier means
- Align with service — Match tier to actual service level delivered
- Use for planning — Tiers help prioritize limited time
