Note templates help you capture information consistently. Instead of starting from scratch, use templates to ensure you document the right details every time.

What are note templates?

Note templates are pre-written note formats with:
  • Structure — Organized sections and headings
  • Prompts — Placeholders reminding you what to capture
  • Formatting — Consistent styling across notes
Templates save time and improve documentation quality.

Organize templates

Categories

Group related templates:
  • Meeting templates
  • Call templates
  • Review templates
  • Compliance templates

Naming conventions

Use clear, descriptive names:
  • “Annual review notes” ✓
  • “ARN” ✗
  • “Prospect discovery meeting” ✓
  • “Meeting” ✗

Template order

Arrange templates by frequency of use. Most-used templates should appear first.

Template best practices

Keep templates focused

Each template should serve one purpose:
  • ✓ “Phone call log” — specific use case
  • ✗ “General notes” — too vague

Include prompts, not examples

Use placeholders that guide input:
**Client concerns:** [List any concerns raised]
Not filled-in examples:
**Client concerns:** Market volatility, retirement timing

Balance structure and flexibility

Templates should:
  • Provide enough structure to ensure consistency
  • Leave room for unique details
  • Not feel restrictive

Review and update regularly

Periodically review templates:
  • Are they being used?
  • Do they capture what’s needed?
  • Should sections be added or removed?

Team templates vs personal templates

Team templates (company-wide)

  • Created in company settings
  • Available to all team members
  • Ensure consistency across the team
  • Managed by admins

Personal templates

Currently, Slant only supports team-level templates. All templates are shared across the book.

Template variables

Some templates support automatic variables:
VariableInserts
{date}Today’s date
{client_name}Client’s name
{advisor_name}Your name
Variable support depends on where you use the template. Not all contexts support all variables.
